Understanding and Calculating Artificial Grass Yarn

The higher the Dtex of a single grass filament, the thicker or wider the grass filament will be, which means better standing ability and increased wear resistance, so basically it will look better for longer. For example our Real Lux 30mm grass has a dtex of 14,400 and has 8 straight Polyethylene yarns and 8 curled PE yarns. So to work out the individual yarn dtex you divide the total dtex by the number of yarns. So each yarn has a dtex of 900. As the curled yarns are a high dtex PE, this helps with softness and recovery. A…

Pet Friendly Artificial Grass vs Synthetic Turf for Dogs

How pet friendly are artificial lawns? Whilst most good quality artificial turf manufactured in the EU/UK are pet friendly, meaning they are safe for pets to use and do not contain harmful metals or contaminants, they are not designed specifically for dogs. Is Kiln-dried Sand Needed for Landscaping Non-infill Artificial Grass?

There are a lot of misconceptions regarding whether landscaping artificial grasses require a sand dressing, as they have a curled thatch layer, some will say this negates the need for kiln-dried sand but just because they are labelled non-infill products, meaning they don't need to be infilled to the top like sports pitches, doesn't necessarily mean no kiln-dried sand whatsoever. Most grasses benefit from 5kg - 8kg per square metre depending on the pile height. Kiln-dried sand can often be called paving sand, silica sand or silver sand depending on the brand. There is also 2ew kiln-dried sand which is…

How to Join Artificial Grass and Create the Perfect Seam

1. Unroll the two pieces of artificial turf side by side ensuring the pile runs in the same direction 2. Fold over the joining edges of each piece back approximately 1 foot 3. Cut a minimum of 3 rows of stitches back, cutting as close to the stitches as possible whilst taking care not to trim any grass yarns. (Try not to penetrate too far through the backing as this can also result in trimmed yarns) 4. Now unroll the jointing tape down the centre line of the join ensuring the shiny side is down and the rough side is up. Fix in place at either end with…

Here we have two grasses on a heavily used play area on a public park. On the left we have a NON-EU grass that has low quality yarns that have split, this effectively causes it to become a grass mat – flat and lifeless. On the right is EU manufactured grass with better quality polyethylene yarns that have remained intact and are less prone to UV discolouration. All artificial grass will flatten…
